An August wellness tip to clear your mind and body this month: Intermittent fasting.
Intermittent fasting is an eating pattern where you cycle between eating and fasting.
In a recent article, Dr. Daniel Amen lists the benefits of intermittent fasting as being able to:
– “Detoxify the brain, clear out old and damaged cells, and sweep away debris.”
– Improve memory
– Lift mood
– Reduce inflammation. “Chronic inflammation has been linked to many brain disorders, including depression, bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s disease and more. According to a study in Nutrition Research, intermittent fasting decreases inflammation, which can have potent benefits for your brain health and mental well-being.”
– Combat high blood sugar
– Lower blood pressure
– Burn fat
I like intermittent fasting primarily for the clarity.
I’ve been practicing a few days a week for months- which for me means ceasing to eat around seven p.m. and then resuming eating at noon the following day-and primarily enjoy the clearness of mind that comes from this practice.
If you’re in need of some mental chatter reduction and want a space where you can hear less of the gremlins and more of the voice of your highest self, I highly recommend this as a healthy practice this month…
in addition to enjoying the lazy, leisurely, dreamy days of August…
All good things,
Jill
